The Sahnefront exhibition explores the historical ambivalence of Danish beaches, which today are perceived as vacation resorts, but at the same time are marked by the German occupation during the Second World War. The remaining bunkers in particular bear witness to a repressed past in the midst of an idyllic tourist setting.
In a series of oil paintings, Max Graf explores this area of tension. Inspired by Expressionism, he transfers its existential visual language to his own reflections on memory and landscape.
Sahnefront raises the question of how we deal with the visible and invisible traces of the past - a reflection on the culture of remembrance and the relationship between past and present. The contrast between vacation, nature and historical burden is artistically presented. Themes such as the past, freedom and the traces of the Nazi era are reflected in an exciting visual language.
