Hêlîn Alas is the new guest lecturer at the Kunsthochschule Kassel

Hêlîn Alas is a new guest lecturer in the summer semester 2025 as part of the program "An empty Space".

"An empty Space - Artistic Creation and its Structural and Spatial Context" is a guest lecturer program of the Kunsthochschule Kassel in cooperation with BPA// Berlin program for artists. Hêlîn Alas (*1987), a successful visual artist and art educator, has been recruited to continue the program.

With her multidisciplinary practice, Alas dissects and maps economies and access mechanisms, often using the example of the art system with its unspoken privileges around class, origin and gender.

In 2017, she was a participant in the Mentor:innen Berlin Program for Artists and spent the following year in New York City on a DAAD post-graduate scholarship. Since then, she has lived and worked in Munich, where she exhibited at Museum Brandhorst in 2022. In the same year, she had another solo exhibition at BPA// Raum in Berlin. Her works have been part of various group exhibitions, including Habibi Kiosk at Kammerspiele Munich, Amerikahaus (Munich), Sentiment (Zurich), Mauer (Cologne), Kevin Space (Vienna), Between Bridges (Berlin) and Hidden Bar at Art Basel.

Guest Lecturer Program "An empty Space"
"An empty Space - Artistic Creation and its Structural and Spatial Context" is a guest lecturer program of the Kunsthochschule Kassel in cooperation with BPA// Berlin program for artists. Every two years, a guest lecturer is invited who already has extensive experience as an alumnus of the BPA// Berlin program for artists. The course focuses on the topic of "Artistic work and its structural and spatial context". It opens up a flexible framework in which the invited guest lecturers can reflect together with the students on the conditions, spaces and structures that shape artistic creation.

BPA// Berlin program for artists
BPA// Berlin program for artists was founded in 2016 by the artists Angela Bulloch, Simon Denny and Willem de Rooij. The program focuses on reciprocal studio visits between participants and mentors. It is complemented by a series of public events organized together with artist-run spaces and renowned institutions. The BPA// network includes 80 former participating artists and more than 150 artists who are mentors in the program.
