Katrin Esser receives the Georg Meistermann Scholarship 2025
Three Cusanuswerk graduate scholarships were awarded during the finissage of the selection exhibition (14.09.25) for the Georg Meistermann Scholarship 2025 at the Baumwollspinnerei Leipzig. The jury selected Katrin Esser, Enric Freund and Lucila Pacheco Dehne as award winners from a total of 33 submitted portfolios and exhibition contributions.
Katrin Esser was a participant in the Graduate School for Moving Images: Analog Realities, Digital Materialities at the Kunsthochschule Kassel from 2021 to 2023. Some of her award-winning works were created in this context. Her experimental short films and video installations deal with individual and collective memory. She examines how memories shape our own biography and identity and how images of the past influence our perception of the present. Historically significant institutions as well as private spaces serve as locations in which she questions existing narratives and traces the forgotten.
With total funding of around 50,000 euros, the Georg Meistermann Scholarship is one of the best endowed graduate scholarships for young artists in Germany. The scholarship is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space and the Verein Ausstellungshaus für christliche Kunst e. V. Munich. In addition to monthly support over two years, the recipients receive a grant of 8,000 euros for a solo exhibition with catalog production.
