As of the beginning of 2022, the Kunsthochschule Kassel now has an Exhibition Area. The building is located in the interior courtyard of the North Building. Paul Friedrich Posenenske, architect of the Kunsthochschule building that was erected during the 1960s, already had plans for a structure at this site. While the Austrian agency Innauer Matt Architekten ZT GmbH did refer to these plans, they interpreted them somewhat differently.
An area of 450 m2 can now be used by students at the Kunsthochschule, not only to develop and present exhibitions, screenings, readings, and performances, but also to make their work available to a wider audience beyond the Hochschule.
At the same time, the Area also provides an opportunity for interdisciplinary work and cooperation between the five study programs. The Exhibition Area is a communication site and an experimental space for artistic, creative, and curatorial practice at the Hochschule.
The Area was financed by the federal and state governments with around 4 million Euros from the Hochschulpakt 2020. The building owner is the state of Hessen – represented by the Hessian Ministry for Science and the Arts in cooperation with the Ministry of Finances – represented by the University of Kassel, Department of Construction, Technology, and Real Estate.
