Art for Teaching at Grammar Schools (L3)

Art is studied as a major subject in the teaching degree for grammar schools. This means that you will study this subject more intensively and comprehensively than your second subject, which is only compulsory for lower secondary level. However, you also have the option of studying the second subject for lower and upper secondary level (Oberstufe); in this case, the standard period of study is extended by one semester. The course concludes with the First State Examination.

The focus of the course is on in-depth study of aesthetic practice. Together with students of Fine Arts and Visual Communication, you will first work in the basic classand then in the specialist artistic classes - always geared towards your own artistic focus. The work in the studios is complemented by a wide range of study workshops, including in the areas of printing, textiles, wood, ceramics, books and paper. In art education courses with a practical focus, you will also acquire forms of presentation and techniques that are particularly relevant for later teaching in schools.

A prerequisite for admission to the course is a successful entrance examination for the teaching profession at Hauptschulen and Realschulen. The application deadline is April 30 of each year.
