This year's Randfilmfest once again brings films to the screen that want more than applause - films that scratch, disturb and desire. At the Rand Award, works compete against each other that lead us through barren landscapes and twisted souls, and that offend both in terms of content and form.
The focus is on figures who navigate between isolation and self-assertion as well as between the tensions of conformity and individuality. A fine retrospective by Roberta Findlay juxtaposes exploitation films with feminism and, to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Film Shop, we also take a look at the infamous Video Nasties - once censored, now disturbingly topical.
This year, two short films and graduation films by students at the Kunsthochschule Kassel have been nominated for the Rand Award Shorts 2025:
