Comics created during the Post Drama and Short Story seminars will be staged.
Post Drama was about contemporary comic narratives that deviate stylistically and narratively from the primacy of realistic storytelling. Emerging in the 1990s, the term post-drama in the context of theater signals a departure from drama, in which the illusion of reality is created on stage. A similar tendency can also be observed on the fringes of the author's comic: Dialogue - when it takes place - is staged as written, constructed language, not as a reflection of a supposedly realistic everyday reality. Spaces do not function as a faithful 2D image of the three-dimensional, but as symbols of an experienced reality, which is sometimes more, sometimes less concretely formulated. The means of the comic (panels, speech bubbles, sound words, color, printing technique) move from the edge to the center: the fabrication of the narrative becomes visible or itself becomes its subject.
Over the course of the semester and with our guests, comic artist Tommi Parrish, playwright Mazlum Nergiz and scenographer Diane Hillebrand, we used concepts and working methods from the theater for our own writing. The result is a series of experimental works that are not conceived as print products but as readings. Mixed in with these are the results of the Short Story seminar, which dealt with classically constructed stories.
