Lecture and kick-off event for the course of the visiting professor Dr. Clémentine Deliss.
In her lecture "The Inquiring Eye: Methods for the Artistic Reinterpretation of Historical and Controversial Collections", Prof. Dr. Clémentine Deliss presents the concept of the "metabolic museum-university", which she developed in her book "The Metabolic Museum" (Hatje Cantz, 2020) and which she has executed and further developed at various locations, including KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. Based on collection convolutions that are considered secondary or contested, Deliss proposes a different modus operandi for reinterpretations of collections and museum ways of dealing with them.
For the winter semester 2023/2024, Dr. Clémentine Deliss will assume a visiting professorship at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. With this visiting professorship, the Kunsthochschule aims to present her current research findings on the topic of "Metabolic Museum-University" with an internationally successful cultural historian, curator and publisher. Dr. Deliss works at the intersection of contemporary art, curatorial practice, and critical anthropology. She is an associate curator at KW Institute for Contemporary Art Berlin and Global Humanities Honorary Professor of Art History at the University of Cambridge, and she directs "Metabolic Museum-University."
