The Cologne artist Franca Scholz will present her work in the seminar room of the basic visual arts class on June 10. All students of the university are cordially invited to attend!
In her video works, fabric objects, installations and performances, Franca Scholz explores the interweaving of physicality, interpersonal relationships and power relations. Her works question our everyday actions, our relationship to ourselves and to others. She combines texts she has written herself with quotes from feminist literature, which can be found as spoken and written words in her objects, videos and performances. The resulting narratives revolve around themes of desire, domesticity and (in)visibility and draw attention to the fragility and incompleteness of linguistic and physical representation.
In addition, Franca Scholz liberates domestic techniques such as pottery and sewing from their traditional contexts and instead develops her own formal language that opens up new meanings beyond functionality. Her work reminds us that preserving and protecting is not just a physical act, but also an emotional and idealistic engagement with the things that surround us and define us.
