As part of the Analogfilm Praxis HANDS ON FILM event focusing on film and moving image, the filmmaking duo OJOBOCA will be guests for an analog expanded cinema workshop with 35 mm slides entitled Mask Compositing for the Digitally Disenchanted on 10.06.25 from 10 am to 4.30 pm. Afterwards, films by OJOBOCA will be shown under the title Suspended Animations at 6 pm in the Filmladen Kassel as part of the series Ton-Bild-Zeit: Filmemacher/innen und ihr Werk.
OJOBOCA is a Berlin-based artist duo consisting of Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy. Their practice revolves around working with analog film material and projection as a performative act - as a means of creating collective experiences. They refer to their method as orrorism, a simulated technique of inner and outer transformation that they have developed. Since 2010, OJOBOCA have been making experimental films, installations and live performances that have been shown internationally at film festivals and art institutions.
WORKSHOP
The workshop is open to anyone interested (with or without experience with film) and offers an introduction to analog compositing techniques based on 35 mm slides - without any digital aids. The focus is on mask compositing: the targeted covering, uncovering and overlaying of image content to create complex, multi-layered image compositions. Starting from found slide material, we develop experimental projections by cutting, collaging and masking, in which the principles of compositing are revealed in a haptic and spatial way. A second focus is on the integration of mechanical movement. To this end, we design and build motorized apertures that are placed in front of the projectors to create rhythmic image sequences and overlays.

FILM SCREENING IN THE CINEMA
Suspended animation refers to the temporary standstill or severe slowing down of vital functions without death occurring. In this film program, OJOBOCA explores those threshold areas in which movement comes to a standstill and systems - whether human or mechanical - gradually slip into silence. The 16mm film Wolkenschatten, the 16mm performance Print Analysis with live reading and St. Fiacre's Torpor, a slide show with pickles that uses the technique of "taste-o-vision" - a performative technique that allows the audience not only to see but also to taste what is happening on the screen - will be shown.
Followed by: Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy in conversation with Sophie Watzlawick and Jan Peters. An event as part of the series Ton-Bild-Zeit: Filmmakers and their work, a cooperation between the "Film and Moving Image" focus area at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and Filmladen Kassel e.V.
