Subject Area Aesthetics and Art Theory

The subject area “Aesthetics and Art Theory” teaches the subject of philosophy in its full historical and systematic scope, but the focus is on teaching the art theory aspects of the BA and MA programs in the department of Art History and Aesthetics at the Kunsthochschule as well as the modules “Culture and Language” and “Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Language” as part of the BA and MA programs in the department of Philosophy. Furthermore, it also provides services whenever necessary in the area of art theory for the programs Fine Arts, Art Pedagogy, Visual Communication, and Product Design at the Kunsthochschule.

The central areas of research for the professorship are represented by the thematic fields “Aesthetics and Their History,” “Contemporary Art Theory,” and “Philosophy of Language.” A particular emphasis in the work lies in the research on the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein and its international influence as well as on the foundation of a general science of the image.
