In the specialisation focusing on ‘Aesthetics and Art Theory’, the subject of philosophy is taught in its full historical and systematic breadth. However, teaching primarily covers the art theory components of the BA and MA degree programmes in Art History and Aesthetics at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, as well as the field of aesthetics within the BA and MA degree programmes in Philosophy at the Faculty.

The development of a critical philosophy of contemporary political aesthetics forms the focus of research. The research focuses on questions concerning the relationship between technology, economics and art, the critique of libertarian aesthetics, and philosophical research into authoritarianism, which examines the symbolic dispositifs of increasingly depoliticised and anti-democratic formations.
