Karen Hertfelder: „Herzschlag“

Comic about passion and women's sports. Schwarzer Turm Verlag publishes comic by Karen Hertfelder.

„Herzschlag“ (published February 2023) is the story of Kisa and Bonnie, two professional female boxers, and their rivalry and burgeoning relationship inside and outside the boxing ring. Karen Hertfelder's brilliantly illustrated debut novel depicts a powerful queer story about passion and women's sports.

Karen Hertfelder was born in Bonn in 1996 and has been studying comics and illustration at the Kunsthochschule Kassel since 2015. In 2021, she self-published, first in English, "Punch Your Heart Out," which is now published in German by Schwarzer Turm under the title "Herzschlag." „Herzschlag“ was nominated for the 2022 Ginco Award in the self-publishing category.

In addition to various short comic projects and contributions to the 8th, 9th and 10th editions of the student publication "Triebwerk" (published by Rotopol), she illustrated several graphic stories for the WDR's "Stolpersteine NRW" app in 2021. Currently she is working on her final thesis.
