Estate of Kay Heinrich Nebel
The art history research project (Prof. Hemken's team) on the history of the Kunsthochschule Kassel (1900-1960) has reached a new dimension: with financial support from the University of Kassel and private mediation, Kai-Uwe Hemken has been able to examine the written and artistic estate of Kay Heinrich Nebel, which the artist's youngest daughter keeps in Washington.
Kay Nebel, who was prominently represented at the legendary 'Neue Sachlichkeit' exhibition at the Kunsthalle Mannheim in 1925, is considered a key figure in the history of the Kunsthochschule Kassel: he was a professor and temporary director of the Werkakademie Kassel from the early 1920s until the early 1950s. The cataloging of Kay Nebel's estate, whose existence and whereabouts were unknown until recently, is an important component of the research project of the Kunsthochschule Kassel, which is working together with the Hessian State Museum (Hessen Kassel Heritage) and the Neue Galerie with a view to a joint exhibition. Prior to this, the work of Kay Heinrich Nebel will also be honored with an exhibition in our exhibition hall on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Kunsthochschule Kassel (2027).
