Ghost Dance takes place over three evenings, where we come together to perform, talk to each other and share the space. The students of the Performance Class (Kunsthochschule Kassel) present live performances as well as moving image works and spatial installations that have emerged from past performances or were developed in parallel and deal with themes such as longing and belonging, violence and stigmatization, vulnerability and courage.
The exhibition and its title stem from the collaborative artistic practice of dancer and choreographer Latifa Laâbissi and visual artist Manon de Boer, who share the many artistic voices that inhabit their minds and bodies. The exhibition expands with each act to include works by Laâbissi and de Boer.
In an unprecedented time, the artists of Ghost Dance navigate the rituals of life. They create space for intimacy and community and question what it means to be a guest, an intruder, a witness. The artists propose a practice of freedom and invite us to listen to their plural voices, eager to be heard.
