In 2023, visitors are once again invited to move around the entire city of Kassel as part of the Gallery Festival, discovering spatial interventions and exhibitions as well as event venues.
The initiators of the "Südgalerien e. V." association first staged the Galeriefest Kassel in Südstadt in 2013. This has grown into the annual activation of hundreds of art and culture enthusiasts as well as various districts of Kassel with a focus on Kassel's Südstadt. Since then, the Galeriefest has established itself as an integral part of Kassel's cultural landscape. Young artists and cultural producers are given a platform to present their works and to contribute with impulses to current discourses.
Various exhibition venues in the Kassel city area will again be integrated into an exhibition scenography in 2023 that will appeal to a broad audience. A majority of the exhibition venues are located in Kassel's Südstadt district, with Frankfurter Straße as the pulsating center of Kassel's art scene. In addition to this, this year's event will also close ranks with the city center, Kassel's north and the museums above the Weinberg.
Based on the 11th anniversary of the Gallery Festival Kassel, activations in the urban space will take place over 14 days in the form of exhibitions and an 11-day supporting program. Under the title "everchanging", a focus will be placed on the development of the gallery festival, problems and opportunities in the cultural sector and structural and personal factors. Working processes and the power positions associated with them will also be reflected upon.
