Class for art in the zeitgenössischer Kontext Housewarming + exhibition.
The exhibition "Conversing with the Ghosts of the Previously Tamed" by the Klasse für Kunst im zeitgenössischen Kontext is part of a research topic that deals with "Ghostly Matters". Ghostly Matters are by no means mere ghost stories, they rather refer to the intangible and invisible things that are suppressed by our respective realities and are therefore constitutive for them. These things often originate from past circumstances, which can suddenly reappear in the present in order to draw attention to their incomplete processing (Avery Gordon). "Ghosts" understood in this way appear as figures and actors in current cultural and art theoretical discourses as well as in artistic manifestations - and in our own lives. The title of the exhibition is based on an essay by the Italian art historian Martina Caruso.
For two years, the class for art in a contemporary context was nomadic, i.e. housed in changing locations, most recently at two different locations in Kassel's Hansahaus. We are delighted to finally be able to move back into our studio on the first floor of the south building and would like to celebrate this with a small exhibition in the newly renovated rooms.
The following are currently working in the class for art in a contemporary context: Anna Neumann, Berfin Topal, David Utecht, Indira Debnath, Janine Graser, Hannah Hjort, Kathrin Mikorski, Kim Rühl, Lea Schröder, Leo Helfert, Leonie Heidel, Lara Weiser, Laura Sophie Koch, Lia Uecker, Linette Weiß, Lorena Ritz, Marie Bürger, Ricardo Jimenez, Samuel Julian Grace, Saskia Masannek, Ye-in Kim
