Tobias Zarges is currently heading the department of Games at Kunsthochschule Kassel with a research and teaching focus on immersive experiences, narrative simulations and interactive storytelling to explore and develop forms of experimental, alternative and critical play and other related and emerging genres.

He is working as a multidisciplinary designer at the intersection of visuals, sound, narration and interactivity to create a wide range of digital and analog media.

Recent projects include the AI-based resting simulation “Knobs Flat”, the quiet and ambiguous attachment adventure “Close”, the community building workshop and mini-open-world-coop-exhibition project „Good Game Well Played“ at documenta fifteen and his artistic qualification “Heartbreak Landscape” exploring ecological simulations, forms of ambient play and overlapping worldbuilding. 

Current texts have been published in the anthology „GesellschaftBilden im Digitalzeitalter“ and Merz Journal for Media Education with a focus on corporeality in digital spaces and participatory design methods. 

He was a Nuovo Award Finalist at the Independent Games Festival in San Francisco. His works have been shown internationally.
