Clarita Maria is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Kassel and Cologne. She studied photography and media art at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig and is currently working on her doctorate in art and design.
In her work, Clarita Maria critically examines dominant historical narratives and addresses the intertwining of transnational identity, memory and archive.
She has exhibited as part of the Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award for Young Talents in LUMA Arles (France), the Bamako Biennale in Mali, the German Photo Book Award and the European Media Art Festival, among others.
In 2024, she had the solo exhibition “Ichibukisho: Bantu for act of memory” at the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig.
