Artistic intervention in the Marmorbad by Klara Schnieber.
Valencia consists of modules cast in plaster, which are imitations of a standard polystyrene decorative panel. To this day, a screen evokes a gesture of power and is somewhere between a piece of furniture, an architectural element and an art object. Originally, screens - also known as Spanish screens - came from Japan and China. With colonization, they initially spread along the trade routes as exotic artefacts in the noble houses of Europe. The screen was appropriated and continually modified. The site-specific, wall-like installation was preceded by a variant in the documenta Halle at Examen 2024. Valencia [Marmorbad] negotiates imitation, illusion, decor and transience more grotesquely than Valencia (documenta-Halle).
The exhibition space plays a central role in Klara Schnieber's artistic practice. It not only influences the perception of her works, but also becomes part of the artistic experience itself. Her immersive sculptures actively provoke their exhibition context. She understands space as a designed backdrop that can never be neutral. All rooms have décor or no décor, whereby no décor is also décor - they are designed. The marble bathroom is overloaded with décor to represent wealth and power.
