Since the beginning of 2023, a group of artists and academic researchers have been working at the Kunsthochschule Kassel as part of the seminar Uncertain History, whose work deals with the critical questioning and (de)construction of historiography and the representation of history(ies).
In a critical examination of colonial archives, medialities of remembrance and fictionalization strategies of the historical, the documentary and the private, a group of students within the Kassel Kunsttempel (which has been working on system criticism for years and also offers a platform for artists outside the Europe-centered art system) investigates how to address, discuss and curate socio-cultural heritage and continuities within an exhibition space. The central concern here is to create an exhibition situation that reflexively and discursively reveals biographical and contemporary spaces of discourse.
From February 7, 2014, the Kassel Kunsttempel will be showing various contributions by artists who develop strategies for dealing with cultural heritage, coming to terms with the past or structural continuities. Exhibiting as a method of artistic research that does not seek to formulate "answers", but rather opens up spaces that encourage reflection and discussion.
