Dem Rauschen lauschen - Film premiere

Animation class from the Kunsthochschule Kassel celebrates film premiere at the HÖR.SPIEL Museum as part of the "Trickreich" festival.

From the beginning of February 2025, visitors to the HÖR.SPIEL Museum will be able to set their own silent films to music exclusively in Kassel: The right timing for the right sound at the right moment was already needed here - or even for absurd sounds to create bizarre and funny scenes. The visual material for this was previously provided by classic silent films from the 1920s. Now new short films have been created especially for the museum. The works were created as part of a collaboration between students from the animation class at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and the LAB Institute of Design and Fine Arts (Lahti, Finland) and the Brückner-Kühner Foundation, which brought the HÖR.SPIEL Museum to Kassel in 2023.

The HÖR.SPIEL Museum, developed by Heikedine Körting (producer of "Die drei ???", among others), was originally located in Holstein before looking for a new home, which it finally found in Kassel's Palais Bellevue. The Brückner-Kühner Foundation has taken over the hands-on stations and several exhibits, but has long wished for a specific reference to Kassel within the exhibition. This wish has been fulfilled thanks to the dedicated students of the animation class: On February 7, 2025, the new films will premiere at Palais Bellevue as part of the Trickreich Festival. The students will be showing their works, which use visual language alone to tell short stories or create humorous moments - inspired by silent films and slapstick comedy. Sounds and soundscapes, most of which were also developed and recorded by the students, invite you to give the films your very own soundtrack.

Julia Blando, Brückner-Kühner Foundation, and Petra Stipetić, artistic assistant in the Visual Communication/Animation department at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, agree that the joint project is a "win-win situation". The film station at the HÖR.SPIEL Museum will be equipped with fresh, new, young films that have been conceived exclusively for this exhibition in Kassel. At the same time, young filmmakers will have the opportunity to show their work in public on the one hand and on the other to deal with fulfilling "commissioned work" without falling short of their own artistic approach and standards. The films must be conceived in such a way that they function without language and at the same time develop a new, unique effect through the addition of sounds by the audience. Further requirements were family-friendliness and a specified length of one minute, so that the films fit in with the operation at the station. At the same time, the students had a lot of freedom to try things out for themselves in terms of the aesthetic approach, the content of the film and the design.

About the cooperation:
Artistic Associate Petra Stipetić accompanied the students of the animation class at the Kunsthochschule Kassel under the direction of professors Martina Bramkamp and Kathrin Albers in the creative process and formed the bridge to Julia Blando (curatorial management of the Brückner-Kühner Foundation) and to Finland: The "International Week" initiated by Erasmus+ in October 2024 resulted in an exchange between the budding artists from Kassel and the students on the Bachelor of Culture and Arts course at the LAB Institute of Design and Fine Arts under the direction of Antti Heinonen. While Petra Stipetić traveled to Finland for an exchange seminar, her Finnish colleague Juho Maurinen and his students visited Kunsthochschule Kassel.
