Exhibition “VISITING Inken Baller & Hinrich Baller, Berlin 1966-89" comes to Kassel

Inken Baller and Hinrich Baller ran a joint architectural office in Berlin between 1966 and 1989. The exhibition shows photographs of 26 the architects buildings, taken during visits to the residents of the apartments and focusing on the filigree, spatial permeability and openness of the houses. It is these elements that constitute a high quality of life and yet were implemented in buildings that were constructed within the narrow framework of social housing.

This way, the exhibition combines the contemporary view of collective urban fragment observatory onto the work with processed archive and planning material on the buildings constructed up to 1989. In addition, interviews convey the background to West Berlin's social housing program of the 1970s and 80s and the time of the IBA 1984.

Inken Baller was appointed the first female professor in the field of architecture, urban and landscape planning at the University of Kassel in 1985. Her early commitment as a woman in an almost entirely male faculty and thus as a pioneer for subsequent female colleagues is given special attention in the exhibition in Kassel.

A publication accompanying the exhibition "Visiting Inken Baller and Hinrich Baller, Berlin 1966-89" was published in March 2022 by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König.

The exhibition is a project by ufoufo.
