Venjakob, Constanze

Research Associate | Art of the 20th and 21st Centuries

Constanze Venjakob (born in Hamburg) is an art historian, curator, and author. She lives and works in Halle (Saale) and Kassel.

She studied art history and musicology at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and art history at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

She is currently working on her doctorate on contemporary artistic explorations of reproductive justice, biopolitical regulation and care work in the context of global body politics.

Her research focuses on intersectional-feminist theories on art and the image, contemporary artistic practices, and representations of bodies and spaces under the conditions of structural inequality.

She worked as an assistant at Kunsthalle Münster, where she contributed to numerous exhibitions, guided young artists, and worked at the intersection of curatorial practice and art mediation.

For many years previously she was part of the artist and research collective freiraumgalerie in Halle (Saale), which concentrates on art in public space and urban planning. Alongside her work there in (urban) art mediation, she also took part in shaping the participatory development of space and the urban environment, and was a founding member of Wall & Space. In addition, she planned and curated cultural festivals and exhibitions.

Since 2021 she has been active in the social media campaign Mehr als du denkst. Weniger als du denkst, an initiative of Doctors for Choice Germany, which is engaged in destigmatizing abortion and in ensuring access to reproductive health.
