Julia Hainz, born in Mainburg in 1993, studied art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg and Vienna. She passed her first state exams in 2019 and graduated as a masters student.
Since 2019 she has been working on her doctorate at the Offenbach University of Art and Design, researching the negotiation of bodily presence as a (queer) feminist performance practice. In 2020 she was awarded the Kulturpreis Bayern and received a debutante grant from the Kunstverein Schweinfurt.
She works as a freelance artist, art educator, and lecturer in Frankfurt am Main. Her artistic practice is both performative and multimedial, concentrating on forms of representation through which bodily knowledge and internalized norms can become tangible and malleable. She is co-founder of the Nuremberg event-organizing collective body on.
