Kathrin Albers has been a professor of animation at the Kunsthochschule Kassel since March 2021. While still studying “Illustration and Communication Design” at HAW Hamburg, she specialized in the field of stop frame animation, in which she has been active as an independent animator ever since. During these almost 20 years, she was the second half of the studio Stoptrick, with which she realized her own short films, trailers, and commissioned works. She also held a professorship in digital animation at Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media in Singapore from 2012 to 2018.
Her research areas at NTU were on the digital extension of analogue animation techniques and engaged with the work of artist Ronald Searle. These themes continue to be part of her work alongside her own narrative film projects. She lives and works as a freelance animator in Hamburg.
