The event gives graduates of the Kunsthochschule Kassel and other artists at the beginning of their careers an initial overview of topics that will facilitate their entry into professional life.
Between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., the six inputs below will take place simultaneously three times in succession, so that participants have the opportunity to attend three different inputs. After the inputs, there will be an opportunity to talk to the speakers and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere.
INPUT I: Spaces for art and culture
Speakers: Alexandra Berge, cdw Foundation / Sarah Metz, Cultural Space Agent City of Kassel
What venues for artistic activity are available in Kassel? How do you get access to these spaces? What additional spaces do cultural practitioners acquire independently? Artistic and cultural spaces are the creative nuclei of an open society. In this input, possibilities are shown for finding suitable studios, rehearsal rooms, stores or performance spaces for creative people in Kassel and what forms of funding and support are available.
INPUT II: Funding opportunities in the visual arts
Speakers: Jessica Lehmann & Kati Werkmeister, Kulturförderung und -beratung Stadt Kassel
In this input, a selection of funding programs at local, state and federal level as well as from foundations and companies, e.g. for scholarships, art prizes and residencies, in the field of visual arts will be presented.
INPUT III: Gallery representation vs. self-promotion
Speakers: Stefanie Haferbeck, Wentrup Gallery / René Wagner, visual artist
How can I successfully market myself as an artist? Do I need gallery representation and what is important? How can I arouse the interest of gallery owners? Stefanie Haferbeck from the Wentrup Gallery in Berlin and Kassel-based artist René Wagner discuss the pros and cons of gallery representation and talk about the possibilities of artistic marketing.
INPUT IV: Insurance and protection for creative professionals
Speaker: Jan Käpernick, trained actor and insurance specialist (IHK)
When may, must or can I insure myself as a designer or artist via the Künstlersozialkasse (KSK)? What requirements must be met? And which insurance policies really make sense for creative professionals, and why? This input makes the topic of insurance and protection for creative professionals manageable. In particular, the basic functioning of the KSK and the requirements and benefits for insured persons are explained, as well as which insurance is needed and which is not.
INPUT V: Turning creativity into a profession
Speaker: Slobodan Tutnjevic, tax consultant in the Tutnjevic team
When are you considered an artist? How can I become self-employed as an artist? What about taxes and social security contributions for artistic professions? What is the small business regulation? It is entirely possible to use your own creativity to earn a living. This input explains the basic tax and business management issues and challenges associated with artistic self-employment.
INPUT VI: Networks in Kassel
Speakers: Wladimir Olenburg, BBK Kassel
Kassel has a lively and well-connected cultural scene. But how can I network and make contacts as an emerging artist? Wladimir Olenburg from BBK Kassel-Nordhessen talks about access to networks and exhibition opportunities in Kassel.
