Lecture Saddie Choua at Kunsthochschule Kassel

On Thursday 12th May 2022 at 10.00h visual artist Saddie Choua will give a zoom-lecture for the seminar ‘Landscapes of Migration’ within the program of the Mehrdimensionale Strategien Klasse at Kunsthochschule Kassel.

Saddie Choua is a Belgium-Moroccan visual artist, documentary maker, and writer with a body of work that mixes fiction, literature, music, and theater into complex spatial events. Often starting from ‘documentary’ material, the work breaks through the (visual) language of media and seeks a confrontation with exoticism and sexism creating alternative stories. As a result of this, the underlying mechanisms that determine our media culture confront the viewers in a very direct manner.

Choua’s practice also consists of articulating a discourse around her interest in visualizing minorities. Her recent project, a guided tour called 'Guide dans ma ville' has been made together with six women with an immigrant background living in Molenbeek neighbourhood in Brussels. This guided tour presents the historical monuments of the neighbourhood, and also stories of the women’s everyday life. Choua is also a member of ROBIN, a Brussels-based collectively autonomous society supporting socially engaged art practices.

The zoom-lecture, this time, will be in English and you can join on 10.00h via the following link:

This event is open to art students and scholars of the Kunsthochschule Kassel as well as to other young art practitioners interested in this approach to art-making.
