Charlotte Bank studied Near Eastern Archaeology, Art History, Assyriology, and Semitic Studies at Heidelberg University, after which she has been working internationally as an independent curator with a focus on contemporary art from the Near and Middle East. From 2012 – 2017 she worked on her doctorate in Arabic Studies at the University of Geneva with a thesis on the contemporary art scene in Syria in a regional art historical context. From 2013 – 2016 she was a research associate at the SNF-sponsored program Other Modernities: Patrimony and Practices of Visual Expression Outside the West. She has received fellowships from the Orient Institute Beirut, the Berlin State Museums – Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, and the University of Bamberg. In the summer semester of 2019 she was a guest professor at the elite masters program “Cultural Studies of the Middle East” at the University of Bamberg.
Since August 2021 she has been Research Associate in the Department of Art and Society.
