The Film and Moving Image programme at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, in collaboration with the Queer Film Festival Kassel, presents: Satanische Sau by Rosa von Praunheim (Germany, 2025, 89 minutes, FSK 16).
Rosa von Praunheim’s unbridled eulogy to himself defies both social and narrative conventions. A look back at his legacy as a queer activist, a reflection on ageing, a little dance with death and a flirtation with life. The film Satanische Sau won the Teddy Award at the 2025 Berlinale.
Rosa von Praunheim about his film:
“I am the sow, played by my alter ego, the brilliant actor Armin Dallapiccola. The film is a dream, a parody, a farce of my life. Poetic associations with my death, my sex life, my rebirth. I remember the 150 films of my life, my lovers, into whose arses I stick roses and whom I must paint blindfolded. Then my neighbour dies, leaving behind an infinitely sad widower. A fan rings the doorbell and forces me to have sex after death, whilst my friends strike up the hymn ‘Great God, We Praise Thee’. But God himself explains his perverse morality to us by praising evil and regarding good as naive.
My mother, played by Anne Rathsfeld, is horrified, and the stuffed monkeys and pigs, which come to life, tell of my great love for animals. In the end, Katy Karrenbauer tells us the appalling truth. We are all satanic swine.”
Followed by: Film discussion with lead actor Armin Dallapiccola.
