Application Design (B.A.)

Admission requirements

The prerequisite for studying design is proof of general university entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur, master craftsman's certificate) in conjunction with artistic talent. This must be demonstrated in an artistic entrance examination. Applicants without the relevant certificate may also apply and be offered a place if they demonstrate outstanding artistic talent in the artistic entrance examination.

Start of studies

The programme always begins in the winter semester, i.e. in mid-October.

The portfolio

The portfolio should be compiled in such a way that it provides an insight into the applicant's development, personality and knowledge. It may contain: sketches, drawings, photographs, watercolours, two- and/or three-dimensional designs/works and similar items. The format and working method are freely selectable. The portfolio should consist of approximately 25 works/sheets. When compiling the portfolio, please bear in mind that preliminary drafts, sketches and preliminary drawings of a work often allow more conclusions to be drawn about the applicant's thinking and approach than a mere reproduction of the finished work.

The entrance examination

The entrance examinations to assess artistic talent take place in June (registration deadline 30 April) and September (registration deadline 15 August) at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. All registered applicants are invited to the two-day entrance examination and should bring their portfolio with them. During the entrance examination, applicants are given approximately 4 design tasks to complete. An admissions committee consisting of professors, staff and students evaluates the portfolio and the solutions to the tasks. In addition, there is a short introductory interview with the applicants and the admissions committee.

Design Information Day

Prospective students are advised to find out about the Design (B.A.) programme in advance. In addition to the general information available, appointments can be made with the programme's teaching staff for a consultation. The Design programme at the Kunsthochschule Kassel also holds an information day every year.
