Graduates of the Kunsthochschule Kassel (KhK) will be exhibiting their final projects at the documenta-Halle in Kassel from 9 to 13 December 2026.
What has been maturing in secret is now bursting forth. ‘Examen 26’ brings together the artistic practices of the graduates and master’s students of the Kunsthochschule Kasselat a moment of transition. For the duration of the exhibition, diverse developments emerge simultaneously, forming a temporary constellation.
‘Until Due Time’, the curatorial concept behind ‘Examen 26’, unfolds from the ambiguity of the English word ‘due’. Something is ‘due’ when its time has come. At the same time, the word can refer to an anticipated moment towards which something is moving as a result of its own development. In ‘due north’, it ultimately becomes a spatial reference, denoting an exact course towards the north. Between due date, maturation and direction, ‘Until Due Time’ describes the period beforehand in which something can emerge, change and continually realign itself.
The artistic practices involved follow neither a shared rhythm nor a predetermined course. Each retains its singularity and follows its own tempo. Processes run in parallel, take detours, intensify, recede or start afresh. In the exhibition, these diverse developments converge without following a shared narrative or linear order.
Orientation, too, remains fluid. Just as a compass needle reacts to the forces of its surroundings, direction emerges in relation to what surrounds it. It is not a course set once and for all, but an ongoing process of alignment and reorientation.
Examen 26 thus becomes a shared moment in which different processes of becoming converge. ‘Until Due Time’ refers not only to the time leading up to this moment, but also to the preciousness of the time in which something comes into being.
