The modular and mobile trolley system designed by Samira Vogl and Vitus Musiol is now integrated into the exhibition hall of the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
The internal university competition “Art / Design in Construction”, jointly organised last year by the Kunsthochschule and the Department of Architecture at the University of Kassel, has concluded. The winning project, “PILLE”, by Samira Vogl and Vitus Musiol (design students), selected by a panel of experts, has been completed and is now in use in the Kunsthochschule’s exhibition hall.
“PILLE” is a modular, mobile trolley system developed specifically for the exhibition hall of the Kunsthochschule Kassel. The project is based on the observation that, until now, events had lacked a design-integrated solution for a bar, lectern or information displays. The new trolley system replaces makeshift set-ups and creates a functional space for communication, serving drinks and providing information. The system consists of two compact, mobile units: an open bar trolley for vernissages and events, and a closed trolley that serves as a lectern as well as a DJ and sound station. The units can be moved flexibly within the university and adapted to different usage scenarios. A sliding cover highlights the modularity and allows for variable opening options. Technically, the trolleys feature an integrated power supply and a direct connection to the hall’s existing water infrastructure.
The visual design is inspired by the architecture of the exhibition hall: the rounded form echoes the hall’s window openings, whilst the vertical slatted structure interprets the façade and wall design. Thanks to their entirely black finish, the units blend into the hall’s minimalist, functional material and design language and take a back seat to the exhibitions on display. An integrated power supply and direct connection to the existing water infrastructure combine the functional requirements of the two trolleys with a precise architectural design.
About the ‘Art / Design in Architecture’competition
Only students from the Kunsthochschule Kassel were eligible to enter this internal university competition. The winning team received a commission fee. The aim of the competition was to submit concepts and designs that engaged with the exhibition hall of the Kunsthochschule Kassel in an artistic and creative manner.
