At its meeting on 15 April 2026, the Kunsthochschule Council unanimously re-elected Prof. Dr Daniel Hornuff as Director of Studies. The term of office is three years.
Prof. Dr Martin Schmidl, Rector of the Kunsthochschule Kassel, who had nominated Hornuff for the post, expressed his delight at the decision and looks forward to their continued collaboration: “I would like to thank Daniel Hornuff very much for the many years of trusting cooperation we have enjoyed so far, and I am delighted that he will continue to serve as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. With his experience, his commitment and his understanding of the specific requirements of study and teaching at the Kunsthochschule, he will continue to provide important impetus for the further development of our academic structure.”
The Director of Studies himself highlighted the current challenges in the field of study and teaching: “TheKunsthochschule Kassel integrates a wide variety of teaching formats. Practical and academic content intertwine and unfold in projects, classes, seminars and lectures, in work areas and numerous other structures. The aim must be not only to maintain their equal standing and equivalence, but even to expand them as an institutional distinctive feature.”
Prof. Hornuff is also responsible for the “Theory and Practice of Design” specialisation. In March 2026, Katharina Zindel, a former research assistant to Hornuff, successfully defended her doctoral thesis, becoming the first person to obtain a PhD in Design Sciences at the Kunsthochschule Kassel.
