Sitting is an everyday activity - and at the same time a cultural act. Seating furniture structures spaces, shapes attitudes, invites people to linger or signals distance. The exhibition "STAY - Textile Seating Objects" is dedicated to sitting and shows experimental designs by students of the Design of Textile Products course at the Kunsthochschule Kassel under the direction of Prof. Ayzit Bostan.

The project focuses on the textile seat as an independent design element. Textile materials have special qualities: they react to the body and movement, create atmosphere, convey closeness, comfort or tension. Beyond their pure function, they can develop emotional, spatial and aesthetic effects. These potentials form the starting point for the design work.

The students will take a close look at historical and contemporary seating furniture from the Neue Sammlung collection. These objects do not serve as models in the classical sense, but as references and sources of inspiration for their own questions. What role does material play in relation to the body? How do construction, surface and textile technology change the perception of sitting? And how can new forms of use be conceived?

The design process includes research into materials and techniques, conceptual experiments and the development and realization of prototypes. This resulted in seating objects made of various materials such as felt, leather and metal.

STAY presents these works at X-D-E-P-O-T as a snapshot of an open design process. The exhibition reveals how young designers are renegotiating the relationship between body, material and space with curiosity, precision and a love of experimentation - and shows sitting as something that goes far beyond simply taking a seat.

Regular cooperation with educational institutions such as universities is of central importance to Die Neue Sammlung. This is because Die Neue Sammlung also wants to promote the discourse on current issues and content with students in practice and make it accessible to the museum public.
