A presentation by art history and aesthetics students at the Academy of Fine Arts / University of Kassel.
The town of Homberg/Efze is celebrating an anniversary this summer: 500 years of the Homberg Synod. As part of a small re-enactment of the event in the local St Mary’s Church, art history students at the University of Kassel asked themselves who attended in 1526, what they heard, and how that might have felt for those people. The latter question can – based on records in the Marburg State Archives – only be answered through empathy. A student mentor reconstructed each individual’s life story and, based on the findings, attributed a specific ‘attitude’ towards the events to the participant from that time.
In the associative installation in the choir of the Stadtkirche, visitors can now, at this historic site, imagine themselves in the emotional and intellectual world of those who once took part in the Homberg Synod of 1526. The exhibition was developed under the direction of Prof. Dr Martina Sitt.
