Spoon Archaeology

Kai Linke and Peter Eckart developed and designed the concept for "Spoon Archaeology“.  The German Pavilion is curated by Thomas A. Geisler, the director of the Kunstgewerbemuseum  and initiator of the newly established Design Campus at Pillnitz Palace & Park. The exhibition “Spoon Archaeology” was selected by the Federal Republic of Germany for the London Design Biennale 2021 as a contribution by the Federal Republic of Germany and will be exhibited in Somerset House in the heart of London from June 2nd to June 27th, 2021. The exhibition will then be presented in the Kunstgewerbemuseum Dresden. The ban on plastic cutlery in the European Union, which will come into force in 2021, is the starting point for the creative research and exhibition project "Spoon Archeology". On the one hand, the project and the exhibition critically examine the design, the cultural and technological history and the effects of plastic cutlery on our environment. Plastic cutlery is becoming a museum and an artifact of the past.
