Lecture by Şeyda Kurt

Şeyda Kurt analyzes the social dimensions of hate in her lecture in the lecture hall of the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

In recent weeks, students at the Kunsthochschule Kassel have discussed Şeyda Kurt's book "Hass", which deals with the feeling of hatred, as part of the seminar "Das Antlitz des Anderen" (The Face of the Other). Kurt describes hatred as a "self-empowered reaction to oppression" and adds an important thought: "Hatred can help us not to turn away, not to flee into indifference, not to simply let the world and ourselves be consumed."

At the end of the first part of the seminar, Şeyda Kurt will give a lecture at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. In this lecture, Kurt will use her analytical questions to focus on the implications of the term hate: Who hates? And why? Where do power and powerlessness intermingle? And how are love, hate and capitalism connected?

Şeyda Kurt is a writer and presenter. In her two non-fiction bestsellers "Radikale Zärtlichkeit - Warum Liebe politisch ist" (2021) and "Hass. Von der Macht eines widerständigen Gefühls" (2023), she examines feelings in the field of tension between capitalism, patriarchy and racism. She was awarded the Grimme Online Award for her work on the Spotify Original Podcast "190220 - Ein Jahr nach Hanau". She also writes texts for the theater and is co-editor of a critical anthology on video games.

This event with Şeyda Kurt is part of the series Schlaglicht, which is organized by the Class for Multidimensional Strategies in collaboration with Katja Kottmann (Basisklasse) and is open to all members of the Kunsthochschule and the University of Kassel.
