balades décentrées

As part of the event Analogfilm Praxis HANDS ON FILM (focus on film and moving image), filmmaker Laurence Favre will be a guest for a workshop entitled "balades décentrées". Afterwards, films by Favre will be shown at the Filmladen Kassel as part of the series Ton-Bild-Zeit: Filmmakers and their work.

Laurence Favre is an artist, filmmaker and researcher who works with - mostly analog - moving (and still) images, sounds and writings. Her work has been shown at international film festivals (Locarno, Rotterdam, Hong Kong, Ann Arbor, Nyon, etc.) in art and informal spaces and as part of symposia. She has received several artist and residency grants.

WORKSHOP
(10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Room 0232, Atrium, Kunsthochschule Kassel)

The workshop is open to all interested parties (with and without experience with film) and deals with the questions: How do we perceive the non-human? Is it merely a "thing" to which we as humans do not feel we belong? Or are we all part of a network that has neither a center nor a periphery? How can we decenter our anthropocentric view? Could a collection of sounds and images invite us to understand other living beings and environments as something alive, endowed with sensitivity and agency?

We will look together at some experiments in this direction and then discuss them together. After a short group exercise, participants will be invited to a decentering experience. Images and sounds (with a 16mm film camera and an audio recorder) will be captured in turn.

Finally, we will meet to share the experience, its challenges, difficulties, insights and inspirations, in relation to our own work.

FILM SCREENING AT THE CINEMA
6 p.m., Filmladen Kassel, Goethestr. 31, 34119 Kassel

As part of the series Ton-Bild-Zeit: Filmmakers and their work (a cooperation between the focus area "Film and Moving Image" at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and the Filmladen Kassel e.V.):

Films by Laurence Favre
Switzerland 2013-2024, Director: Laurence Favre, Length: 61 min.

RÉSISTANCE (2017, 11 min.)
The glacier is a giant: seemingly always there, with the two moraines running along its tongue. An appearance - majestic, timeless with its landscape in black and white, imposing and yet fragile. The objects it spits out are signs of man's temporary presence and evidence of his continuous and irreversible melting. But it is still resistant.

OSMOSE (2022, 11 min.)
The film is a sensory portrait of the forest and the tensions that inhabit it, combining images of pure chlorophyll with the dense blackness of burnt forests captured on 16mm film. A poetic immersion in an environment that serves as a metaphor for our inner worlds.

ZERZURA (2024, 11 min.)
How is "nature" perceived? Is it merely a "thing" to which we as humans do not feel we belong? Or are we all part of a system that has neither a center nor a periphery? Could a collection of sounds and images invite us to understand "nature" as something alive, endowed with sensitivity and agency? After Résistance (2017) and Osmose (2022), Zerzura concludes the Corpus Animale trilogy.

NWA-MANKAMANA (2025, 28 min.)
In 1947, Marie Tinguely left her home in Le Locle to work in a Swiss mission bush hospital in South Africa. After her death, the films she made during her 25 years as a missionary and some letters were found in a family apartment. I decide to research them.

Afterwards: Laurence Favre in conversation with Sophie Watzlawick and Jan Peters.

Admission (for all those not taking part in the workshop or studying in the Film and Moving Image specialization): 7.50 euros.
