Dr. McGovern, Fiona

Visiting Professorship for Exhibition Studies

Fiona McGovern is an art historian, author, and curator. Her work and research focuses on artistic exhibition practice and historiography, ethics of curating, and interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches in the arts.

From 2018 to 2024 she was Junior Professor for Curatorial Practice and Art Education at the University of Hildesheim. In the summer semester of 2022 she took a leave of absence from this position to serve as Visiting Professor of Curatorial Studies at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.

Her dissertation appeared on transcript in 2016 under the title Die Kunst zu zeigen [To show the art]. She is co-editor of Jill Johnston: The Disintegration of a Critic (Sternberg), published in 2019 for the exhibition by the same name at Bergen Kunsthall, and in the summer of 2024 she published Scores for Transformation (A Conversation) along with the artist Ruth Buchanan, based on a dialogue with the artist.
