Doing Nothing But Breathing

Within the framework of the seminar Leben ist Sterben: Philosophie des Todes im Spiegel des zeitgenössischen Buddhismus und seine künstlerische Darstellung, meditation teacher Sahara (London) will lead a workshop on breath observation and engage in a dialogue with the audience.

Breath Observation is a simple way of using the breath - a phenomenon that happens every second of our lives. It allows us to become truly aware of what is happening to our body and mind at the moment. By observing the breath and how it interacts with the mood-affected body, we can see the subtle changes in the body with the emergence of inner hopes and fears, as well as of various emotions and thoughts, such as pride and jealousy. Maintaining awareness prevents us from being carried away by our emotions and thoughts and thus losing control. Tragedies in life are often the result of losing control. True happiness in life lies in having the right to make independent choices, not the other way around. Only with a heart free from the control of moods and emotions can we truly appreciate the beauty of the moment.

Only then can we see that the reality of life is impermanence and the changes that occur every second. And only then can we truly understand the truth of death!

If you cannot understand impermanence, you cannot accept death. If you want to understand death, you must first understand that death is not a moment when you lose your breath, not a moment when your heart stops, not a moment when your pupils dilate. Instead, you must understand that death is happening all the time, right now.
