Nicola Stattmann is a product designer and has been working with her own design office since 2002. The main focus of her work as a designer and materials expert lies in the areas of ecological product development and the introduction of new materials and technologies into product design. Her many clients have included Beyerdynamic, Bauerfeind, BMW, Adidas, Fissler, Samsung, and Volkswagen. In 2011 she and her brother founded the company STATTMANN, based in Ascheberg in Westphalia. The firm develops, produces, and sells furniture taking ecological principles into account from A to Z. She has taught at a variety of design schools, and since 2004 she has been a visiting professor at numerous universities, including the Bauhaus University in Weimar, the Offenbach University of Art and Design, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, and at the HBK Saarbrücken. In publications like "Ultra Light – Super Strong" (Birkhäuser 2003) and "Unfolded" (co-editor Petra Schmidt, Birkhäuser 2009) she deals with the potential of new materials for product design, respectively the material paper. From 2000 to 2001 she established the Material Lab at designaffairs in Munich as an interface between the design team and the technical departments at Siemens.
